With a cost of about $40,000 a day, the Idaho Legislature should address the unfinished business of Medicaid Expansion during this special session!
On May 18, 2015 the Idaho Legislature will hold a special legislative session to address one issue: child support legislation. While this is a critical issue, the cost to Idaho taxpayers is $40,000 per day. That’s a lot of money for only one issue.
Meanwhile 450 Idahoans will die this year because the legislature did not address Medicaid Expansion during the regular session. The state and taxpayers are funding uninsured healthcare costs at a rate $120 million so far this year. This money would be saved though an expansion in the Medicaid program.
We are calling on the Idaho Legislature to take care of the unfinished business of Medicaid Expansion during the special session.
- With a Medicaid Expansion, Idaho will save $178 million 90% funding by the federal government.
- People will live! Preventable deaths will decrease as these low income families will have access to treatments and medications they need to live.
- In addition to providing comprehensive coverage to thousands of Idahoans, a Medicaid Expansion will create jobs. The program currently generates economic activity that sustains over 18,000 jobs in the state.
